Getting here and getting around...
Located on Costa Rica's northwest coast, Tamarindo Bay is part of the Guanacaste Province.
The best airport to fly into is Liberia, but flying into San Jose is also an option. From San Jose, you may take a smaller plane directly into Tamarindo or, a more adventurous option, rent a car and try the drive, which is about 6 hours. Transportation from the Liberia airport by van is about $15 USD- Tamarindo Shuttle is our favorite tamarindoshuttle@hotmail.com.
A rental car, much cheaper from the airport, will not be of much benefit in easily walkable Tamarindo, but would be helpful in traveling to other parts of the coast. The rental cars in Tamarindo run about 180 USD a day. A cheaper option is to organize a van, Tamarindo Shuttle is again a great option, for day trips or overnight adventures. Take the van up to Arenal for a night of hot springs and volcano viewing, hike around the rain forest in the morning and come back the next night.
